The SAIS Strategic Studies Program is pleased to announce the alumni listserv. We hope that Strat Studies alumni may both remain connected to the department and take advantage of the broad network of Strat alumni working in DC and around the world. To join this Google Group, please send an email with your name and year to stratdistro@gmail.com. We hope that this listserv may serve as a forum for event announcements, job postings, book groups, and any other relevant information. Furthermore, we can use this list to keep alumni abreast of current events in the Strategic Studies department, such as the International Staff Ride Challenge: http://www.sais-jhu.edu/programs/ir/strategic/index.html for this year's Staff Ride "The Battle for Spain." If you have any news or announcements for the Strat community, please send an email to stratdistro@gmail.com and we will include your posting in the next listserv email. In an effort to minimize inbox clutter, we have decided to send periodic "digests" rather than have the list open for people to reply all. As an initial update, below is a letter from the program's acting director, Prof. Thomas Keaney. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ To the SAIS Strategic Studies Alums: The Strategic Studies Program gives its full support to the development and use of this Listserv. Each class of students has developed a tremendous sense of camaraderie while here, and I see this type of communication as continuing these associations across classes. Significantly, it was the initiative of the present students to develop this contact list with alumni. With your participation, it can act as an excellent means of communication among you on both professional and personal matters. I will certainly use it to send you news of the program. As brief update, as I believe most all of you know, Prof. Eliot Cohen is on leave of absence serving as Counselor to the State Department (personal advisor to Secretary Condi Rice) until January of 2009. In addition, Assoc. Prof. Mary Habeck has joined the NSC. Regardless, the program is thriving. We have introduced new courses on Anthropology for Strategists and, this next term, on tracking and interrupting the financing of transnational threats. We continue with our speakers' series, films, career clubs, field trips and staff rides. I am extremely proud of the current group of students, as you will be. I hope that this listserv will increase that interaction. Tom Keaney ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ In addition, Strategic Studies alumni have created "The Strat-o-Sphere", a blog (not officially connected with SAIS) which you can reach by clicking here. |
