Curriculum

Every M.A. student at SAIS is required to complete a concentration in International Economics.  The requirements for this concentration consist of four parts.  Listed below are the Fundamental course requirements; the Core course requirements; the Elective course requirements and the Oral examination requirements.  Additionally, for those students with superior economics preparation and aptitude, the program also offers an Economics Specializations requirement. Economics Concentration Requirements:

        Fundamental course requirements:
        Demonstrate proficiency in intermediate theory of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics
        through passing the courses or qualifying to take the waiver exams.

        Core course requirements:
        Demonstrate knowledge of International Trade Theory and International Monetary Theory
        through passing the courses or qualifying to take the waiver exams.

        Elective course requirements:
        Pass a minimum of two courses offered under the International Economics program
        Elective Courses List.

        Oral examination requirements:
        After your final semester at SAIS, demonstrate proficiency in discussing economic theory
       a
nd analysis during an oral examination.

Economics Specializations Course Requirements:

        Economics Specializations:
       In addition to the completion of the above requirements, specialization courses are offered as electives
       in three areas of economics for students with a strong economics background and wish to pursue a focus
       of study within one particular field of international economics.
